Friends and Clients,
I just checked the 10 day forecast on this last day of February; another 10 days of rain forecast! Our weather this winter is the main topic of conversation- even in this hot political climate. Incessant rain, numerous snow events, and especially the ever present sub-freezing temperatures, have worn-down even the heartiest Oregonians. The election may have no immediate effects on Real Estate, but the weather certainly does. Remember our unique October where it rained almost every day for a month? November was not helpful to us and December weather slowed things way down. In January, everyone stayed indoors as much as possible- I chopped wood from some trees logged back in October on one sort of sunny day, but I still have many days to go; maybe in March?

- Lesson 2: Who Do We Serve
In the first Market Action Real Estate Report this year for the Portland metro marketplace, all of the numbers are down except that the annual average and median prices are up (12%+/-). This is not unexpected. New listings which normally surge on January 2nd are just now beginning to come out. Still, we believe we are entering another very active and progressive year for real estate- just a couple of months late. Most of 2016 witnessed moderating numbers following the explosive growth since 2012 in Portland. Portland returned to a more normal, but still an aggressive marketplace, and that was welcomed. Yamhill County, still lifting off from the market bottom is posting better numbers relative to Portland, but modestly so compared to last January.
In two weeks, on the Ides of March, Bella Casa Real Estate Group will celebrate our 10th Anniversary. We were born into adversity in 2007 but are grateful to be where we are in 2017. We hope the 7 years of famine will continue with 7 years of plenty. Our agents never gave up, never caved in, and persisted to the end until they achieved what they needed.
10 years ago, I shared with Rotary a quote from a piece of newspaper which I subsequently carried with me to this very day. While I would in no way put my hope in human ‘omnipotence’ for the solutions of the human race, I would want to second the notion that persistence is fundamental to human ‘achievement’. Hear that in the worlds of Calvin Coolidge…
“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
The slogan ‘Press on” has solved, and will always solve the problems of the human race.”
I included with this Market Report, the statistics of homes sold during January in Yamhill County and up the SW Portland Corridor beginning in Sherwood. I also included a training article for our agents. I know of no better way to help you see our values than to allow you to see into the world of how we teach and train our newer agents. This one focuses on a crucial issue- You are our Clients, not our Customers!
Thank you for your trust in us through the years and your gracious referrals of our services to the people you care about.
Best regards,
Randy
